To Shave, To Wax, Or To Not? Preparing For Your Boudoir Photoshoot With Boudoir By KJ
One of the most common questions I get before a boudoir session is:
“Should I shave or wax before my shoot?”
The short answer?
Only if you want to.
Body hair is completely normal. Every woman has different preferences when it comes to grooming, and there is absolutely no “right” way to show up for your boudoir session. Whether you prefer to shave, wax, trim, or leave everything natural, your photos should reflect you and what makes you feel the most confident and comfortable.
If You Love Being Smooth In Your Boudoir Photos
If being freshly shaved or waxed makes you feel your best, then absolutely go for it! Many clients choose to shave or wax before their session simply because it helps them feel polished and confident in lingerie. I highly recommend From The Brows Down in Hudson, Wisconsin or Jaycee Beauty Suite who is also located in Hudson, Wisconsin.
A few tips if you do decide to remove hair before your shoot:
- Wax a few days ahead of time to reduce redness or irritation. However, ask the esthetician what they think is the best.
- If shaving, do it carefully the night before or the morning of your shoot, whatever works best for your skin.
- Moisturize and take care of your skin leading up to your session. Please avoid sun exposure overall as well.
The biggest goal is simply feeling comfortable in your own body.
If You Prefer Natural Body Hair In Your Boudoir Photos
That is completely okay too.
Body hair does not make your photos any less beautiful, feminine, sexy, or empowering. Boudoir is about celebrating yourself as you are and not fitting into someone else’s beauty standards.
If you normally don’t shave your legs, underarms, bikini area, or anywhere else, there is no reason to suddenly change yourself for photos unless you genuinely want to. Your session is about authenticity and confidence, not perfection.
Some clients love the soft, natural look body hair brings to their images because it feels more like them. And honestly? Confidence photographs beautifully no matter what. The goal is for you to have confidence.
The Most Important Thing: Do What Makes YOU Feel Good For Your Boudoir Photoshoot
Boudoir photography is deeply personal. The best photos happen when you feel relaxed, empowered, and comfortable in your own skin.
So whether you show up freshly waxed, casually shaved, lightly trimmed, or completely natural, your choice is valid.
This experience is not about changing your body. It’s about embracing it.
At the end of the day, there is no grooming requirement for a boudoir session. There is only what makes you feel confident walking into the studio.
And that confidence? That’s the most beautiful thing you can wear.
